Traditional walking aids provide support, but do little to improve the mechanics of walking itself. In fact, these crude devices often create fall hazards of their own, and are associated with tens of thousands of emergency room visits every year.
Through a biomechanically informed approach, Steadion products are designed to induce greater balance and gait consistency by reducing physical and cognitive burdens on the user. We call this approach active walking assistance.

Walking is more than a matter of taking steps. It’s a complex interaction of multiple physiological systems, including sensory, neurological, cardiorespiratory and musculoskeletal factors — all of which typically decline with age.
By analyzing speeds, angles, rhythms and force, in real time and over time, Steadion technologies can unveil subtle (and not so subtle!) changes in mobility health. These insights can help reduce fall incidence and maintain longer, safer quality of life.

A 9-axis inertial measurement unit and pressure sensing in the handle capture motion and force 200 times per second — every step, every stumble, every pause.

Analyze
Embedded algorithms translate raw motion into gait and activity events - strides, cadence, asymmetry, sway and more - in real time, on the walking aid itself.

React
The system understands the user's normal gait signature and watches for both sudden and longer-term deviations, alerting selected care members when needed.
